The challenge

The Bay Area Community College Consortium coordinates workforce-education and Strong Workforce Program grant activity across the region, serving college staff, regional directors, K-12 coordinators, and industry partners. Its public site ran on Google's legacy "classic" Sites platform — which Google was retiring — leaving the consortium facing a hard end-of-life with no editing control.

Years of accumulated pages had produced a tangled sitemap of outdated and active content, and a related sub-brand, BayICT, lived separately on Squarespace. As a publicly funded body, the new site also had to meet accessibility requirements and carry proper grant-sponsor attribution.

Our approach

We mapped the full existing sitemap, separated archival from active content, and designed a new structure built around the consortium's audiences — streamlined menus, a dedicated sectors menu, quicklinks for high-traffic items, and on-site search so stakeholders could find dense grant information fast.

We rebuilt the site on WordPress as a staff-editable platform, organized around eight sectors, and migrated content off Google Sites along with 222 members and existing posts. We verified the site against accessibility requirements and added an accessibility widget, then consolidated the separate BayICT site into the main domain using 301 redirects to preserve search ranking.

The result

A modern, accessible BACCC website on WordPress, migrated off Google Sites ahead of its shutdown with no loss of content, members, or search ranking. Clearer audience-driven navigation, on-site search across all eight sectors, and BayICT folded into the main domain — with the BACCC team set up to manage future updates themselves.

Thank you for all the updates — it looks ready to go.
